myMail Moved

Written by admin on December 6, 2006

We recently finished moving myMail to keep up with increased usage and interest and it got me thinking. We have been getting a lot of questions recently about it, and many are along the lines of “How is myMail different than (insert name of Joomla/Mambo newsletter component here)”?

The core features are all the same: you can collect email addresses; you can create templates for your newsletters; they follow CAN-SPAM rules for opt-in and opt-out; they send emails. That’s about where the features of most newsletter components stop. In addition to that myMail features:

  • Custom fields for newsletter targeting
  • Comprehensive statistics including number of emails opened, links clicked (including the email addresses that opened/clicked)
  • Scheduled sending
  • Increased capacity (shared accounts aren’t suited to large lists, myMail can easily handle lists with thousands of subscribers)

If you run a newsletter that features advertising, you can easily charge more to advertisers by allowing them to specify a target demographic and you can send their ad to only that demographic. Most newsletter experts seem to agree that sending your newsletter at the same time each day/week/month is the way to get the best response, with scheduled sending in myMail that is very easy.
